The facts about grasshopper and their types

The grasshopper is a hopping insect with specilized, large hind legs adaptted for a leaping. The hind legs have very stron muscles for jumping and they use the short front legs for wallking.

Grasshoppers have long bodies with two pairs of wings, however Some species of grasshopper doesn't have wings.

Grasshoppers have five eyes and no ears.

Grasshoppers have antennae that are generally shorter than their body and short ovipositors.

Grasshoppers have pinchers or mandibles that cut and tear off food.

Grasshoppers feed on variety plant matter, they prefer to eat of leaves, grasses, tender bark, vegetables and cereal crops. Many will eat from multiple host plants in one day, while some prefer to rely on the same host plant.

In certain countries, grasshoppers are eaten as a good source of protein. In Mexico for example, chapulines are regarded for their high content of protein, minerals and vitamins.

Species that change colour and behaviour at high population densities are called locusts.
